5th meeting was about korean cookies and tea and Sanho Kim presented it for us. And we had an experience to taste some food during the meeting .

People sometimes prepare some cookies, tea, and some light food for seting a table and have a meeting. In korea we call this party as dakua-hoe(다과회, 茶菓會) . You can understand it as a korean style tea time.
We do this party at sememster ends at the school or opening company, easy meetings.

1. 약과(藥菓·藥果, Yak-Kua)

A cake made from wheat flour, oil, and honey.
We eat this after performing religious services
Why Say It yak-kua(약과)?
Honey uses like medicine in Old Korea
As Korea prob. “이것은 약과다” “That´s as simple as ABC.”
Because It’s very soft, so even people with week teeth can eat to easy

Folk Games(Korea)

[DIC-0603-Korea-Talked by "Park,Jong-Yeong" ]

  • 고싸움놀이(Go Ssa Um Nol Ee)Go-fight!There are people who believe that the disaster will occur if the bull stand up.The town where they live wasn't good to live. because of its geographical shape. It seems like a bull.so they piled up seven stones on the place that seems like to the shape of the bull's tale. Can you imagine how to play this game.Make a tale by using straws(we call it 'go-' )and separate two teams. and held up the 'go-' and move forward to other team's 'go-'. and collide.and let other team's tale down on the ground. These days you can see this game from the public advertisement for announcing Korea. There are some reasons. and the one is that this game is so dynamicand Korea government and we want to represent our country as dynamic Korea.
  • 연날리기(Yun Nal Li Gi)
Flying a kiteThis game is a common game everywhere in the world. I think all you know a kite.At seol-nal(설날) we attach the paper which contain our hope to the kite.** seol-nal(설날) is the first day of the year and it is the biggest holiday in Korea.

.

.

  • 제기차기(Je gi cha gi)
Kicking shuttlecock'Jegi' is a shuttlecock. it made of a twist of fringed paper. The way to play is simple. just kick on the instep. In korea most of children play this game at seolnal.

  • 투호(Tu ho)
It means throwing arrows.Initially it came from the china of Dang(당) dynasty.there is a jar which made of bronse and has ears.and put the jar on ground and step back about 10 steps and throw arrows.its rule is simple. One team who filled more number of the arrows can be a winner. This was not common for the society of common people from that time and now.

  • 윷놀이(Yut Nol Ee)
Korean usually play this game at seol-nal. I think 윷놀이(Yut Nol Ee) is the most common game for korean and the most folksy game. Before the beginning of the game, You should put down a carpet which made of straw. and then throw the 4 sticks at the same time on a carpet. and move 4 horses on the map. You can see 5 situations which indicated from upside and downside of the sticks. If there is only one upside stick, you can move your horse just one step on the map. we call it '도(do)', and two upsides is called '개(gae)’. you can move 2 steps. three upsides is called '걸(gul)‘ and 3 steps. and 4 upside is called '모(mo)’, and 5steps. 4 downsides we call it '윷(yut)' The rule is simple, throw 4 sticks and Step forward your horse for the ending point. The first team whose all 4 horses arrived the ending point is winner.
  • 널뛰기(Nul ttui gi)
Jumping on a plate.Usually the women play this game.Put a plate on the rolled straw carpet. On th each side of the plate, the one jumps after the other jumps. Repeating this action. allows them jump more and more. It was unusual for Men.Long time ago, It was not eaay for women to go out doors andI heard that the beginning of this game comes from that womem. they can't see her lover or her husband so they just looking forward to see beyond the wall.
  • 씨름(Ssi Reum)
Korean traditional martial art.grab the opponent's 'sat-ba, 샅바'. sat-ba‘is the cloth which surrounding man's waist.pulling, raising, pushing, turning and spending the maximum energy to let the opponent fall down on the sand.It is the rule of the game.In korea, every chu-suk day(추석), A lot of players be gathered and do their best to win and to be a '천하장사(天下壯士, Chun Ha Jang Sa).'It means the strongest man of the world..

  • 줄다리기(Jul Da Li Gi)
Pulling a rope.Separated two teams do their best to pull a rope backward. If the attached cloth reach the line of one side. the game is over of course the more puller is winner. It is a simple game and just need the power. If your team has the more number of the strong men, It'll be easy to win the game.

Days In Corea #003 Meeting
